Urban Ranch

Charles and Susan Elder lived in the same house for many years. After they retired, they decided to tear down their old home and rebuild the house of their dreams. They hired RD Architecture and Tryon Homes for the first phase of collaboration. RD Architecture then found Exterior Worlds through Houzz after connecting with their designs. When they met Charles and Susan, they felt an immediate personal connection with them. And so began this collaborative journey to create a beautiful environment, connecting landscape to architecture, for this family.

The project was very hands on and unique throughout every step of the build. Flexibility and coordinated planning were critical for this design, with a process that might feel out of order for other builds being exactly what this project needed. The home had modern elements, metals, clean lines, and touches of personality throughout. The exterior walkway was perfectly matched to the homeowners stride, while a single red panel was incorporated into the Mondrian-inspired exterior as a nod to Charles and Susan’s journey in their first home.

This project was unlike many other building projects, and this was mostly due to Charles and Susan. Their spirit and story were laced throughout the design and the entire experience. They took care of the team, providing lunch for everyone inside their new home. They even had a steel beam in the master bathroom that they requested everyone sign. Working on a project like this, with a team who is incredibly aligned, and with clients who truly care about quality and community, you can’t help but walk away feeling like you were a part of a truly special and unforgettable experience.
